Description of Duties:
The Linux Server Systems Engineer supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will:
- Conduct daily battle-rhythm of checks on Red Hat Linux systems and network communication devices to include patch management activities in both test and production environments.
- Provide support that includes network and related hardware support in an engineering test and production environment.
- Perform engineering analysis of current configuration and proposed configurations to ensure compatibility and Cyber Readiness within the overall Lab environment.
- Assist the Lab Lead with daily reviews of systems to ensure normal maintenance functions are performing properly as well as execution of daily/weekly system health checks/checklists.
- Support Red Hat Linux operating systems and various NAS and SAN devices including specialty arrays including, but not limited to, EMC ISILON and other raid file systems.
- Conduct system audit log reviews as well as continuous security monitoring using legacy LEM, HBSS, SCAP and ACAS as required to meet DoD and MDA Cybersecurity requirements.
- Coordinate efforts with Lab management and other work center personnel to prevent mission critical test and production schedule impacts on Lab systems and supporting infrastructure.
- Assist with engineering support documents that represent proposed changes through the Configuration Management process and Change Advisory Board.
This position will be filled at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL
This position is expected to pay $118,000 - $128,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

Here’s What You’ll Need:Basic Requirements:
Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: HS Diploma (or GED) and 10 years of general experience; Associate's degree and 8 years of general experience; Bachelor's degree and 6 years of general experience; Master's degree and 4 years of general experience.
- Must have 6 years of directly related experience
- Must have a current DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification (e.g. CompTIA Security CE Certification)
- Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Requirements:
- Have 4 years of work experience as a Linux system administrator or engineer
- Have a current Linux certification
- Have a working knowledge of IAVA/M Management, STIG Compliance and RMF
- Have experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Have experience with RHEL patch management via YUM
- Have experience with Red Hat Errata
