What are the responsibilities and job description for the BRidge Peer Advisor - IE position at James Madison University?
. Attend and actively participate in all BRidge Peer Advisor training programs.
- Greet and provide direction to groups of BRidge students and their guests during 1787 Weeks of Welcome events and provide excellent customer service to new students and family members by communicating accurate information.
- Assist BRidge students with academic expectations, peer relationships and personal adjustment to JMU through small and large group discussions, individual peer conversations, educational sessions and positive interactions.
- Serve as peer mentors to incoming BRidge students after 1787 events and throughout the 2022-2023 academic year.
- Develop and demonstrate team leadership, responsibility and effective communication skills.
- Develop and demonstrate skill in facilitating small and large groups.
- Must be a transfer student from the VCCS, preferably from BRCC.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 is preferred, but applications will be accepted for students with a GPA below 2.5. *Note – If you do not have a JMU GPA, please indicate GPA from your previous institution on the online portion of the application.
- Be in good disciplinary and academic standing with James Madison University.
- Be enrolled full-time as undergraduate students, not studying abroad during the fall and spring 2022-23 semesters.
- BPAs are required to participate in all BPA training sessions and programs in the summer fall and spring. This will include a short training in June, the June 21 Welcome Day on campus for BRidge students and their families, a training the week of August 16, and August 19-21 events when students move in. There will also be at least one group event in the fall and spring semesters.
- Due to intensive responsibilities between the dates of August 16 – 28, 2022, BPAs are unable to work at or train for another job during these times.
- BPAs must be legally authorized to work in the United States throughout the tenure of the position.
- BPAs must understand that all details and dates are subject to change
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
