The Office of the Provost at James Madison University invites applications for the position of Events and Communications Support Specialist. This position provides administrative support for the Office of the Provost with primary emphasis in maintaining efficient and effective operations. The Events and Communications Support Specialist provides support for event planning and communications production to the Office of the Provost and delivers exceptional service to members of the campus community and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support for the Office of the Provost under the direction of the Executive Assistant. Assists in the management of office calendars; manages routine correspondence and maintains contact and mailing lists for the office.
- Serves as the initial point of contact for the Office of the Provost in person, by phone or via the Office of the Provost email box.
- Provides administrative and scheduling support to the Chief Communications Officer in Academic Affairs and assists in monitoring, updating and utilizing division-wide communications channels.
- Contributes to organizing and planning events for the Division of Academic Affairs.
- Coordinates office domestic and international travel.
- Provides backup administrative support to Academic Resources and Initiatives and Planning as needed.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, executive environment while exhibiting professionalism, exercising tact, displaying good judgment, diplomacy and maintaining confidentiality in a highly visible office.
- Must be a problem solver with demonstrated experience in ascertaining priorities, marshaling resources, and accomplishing objectives.
- Comprehensive computer skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Peoplesoft, mail merges, listservs, website management, iModules and survey tools would be beneficial.
- Ability to plan, organize and execute special events and functions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of standard business correspondence formats. Solid editing and proofreading skills.
- General understanding of finance, purchasing and travel planning processes.
- Broad understanding of higher education structure and culture would be beneficial.

The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
