Position Summary Information

General Information
General Information: The University Health Center (UHC) at James Madison University is accepting applications for a full-time Medical IT Specialist. The successful candidate will assist staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications and related technology, and provide support including specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. The successful candidate will also be required to interact with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique problems. The position’s responsibilities require independent analyses and communication and problem-solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
  • Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software
  • Creates desktop/laptop computer images
  • Works with the Help Desk and Network Operations staff to determine and resolve problems received from clients
  • Interacts with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment
  • Trains and orients staff on the use of hardware and software
  • Prepares installation instructions and end-user documentation
  • Recommends and/or performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity
  • Assists with researching and testing of new software, new versions of existing software, mobile technologies, and other emerging technologies.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with HTML writing and editing
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience troubleshooting networked devices
  • Experience troubleshooting desktops and their peripherals
  • Experience with Windows and MAC operating systems and mobile devices
  • Ability to prepare and install software packages
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems associated with operating system malfunctions
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • Ability to explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively
  • Ability to create end-user documentation


Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience working with a web content management system, preferably Cascade
  • Experience working with electronic health record systems, preferably Medicat
