Summary:
Assist students in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate successfully in school such as behavior control, social skills, academic improvement, communication skills, appropriate interpersonal behavior, symptom management and coping skills.
1. Provide strategies in designing planned interventions for challenged students.
2. Provide service for the progressive reduction of the effects of a Mental Health disability.
3. Provide interventions and service to promote the highest level of success – behavioral, academic – through restoration and maintenance.
4. To assist students in school, work skills or with other issues related to their Emotional Disturbance by obtaining skills to live independently of by preventing movement to a more restrictive situation.
Responsibilities (but not limited to):
1. Assist students in gaining interpersonal skills.
2. On site assessment, evaluation, and feedback sessions to identify students’ symptoms or behaviors.
3. Participate in developing student interventions with school teams.
4. Provide student interventions in social skills training to improve communication skills and facilitate appropriate interpersonal behavior.
5. Problem solving, support, and supervision of students related to school activities.
6. Assist students in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate in school – academic support, behavior control, social skills, communication skills, successful interpersonal skills, and coping skills.
7. Observe students, provide classroom, and school support.
8. Coordinate interventions; implement interventions.
9. Assist in development of behavior intervention plan.
10. Teach and model positive social skills.
11. Modify interventions as needed (with team consensus).
12. Participate in scheduled meetings to discuss student progress.
13. Attends scheduled department staff and clinical meetings.
14. Complete billing information according to established procedures (Medicaid).
15. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
16. Full-time employees are expected to bill at least thirty (30) hours per week. Compensation will reflect billed hours multiplied by the employee’s hourly rate.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Screening. Typical responsibilities: analyzes and interprets client functional level; assesses client’s independent living skills; assesses current environment problems and community support; determines eligibility for services.
2. Case Management. Typical responsibilities: visits clients and collateral contacts to observe clients and services; ensures client access to services; advocates for client rights; ensures least restrictive environment and treatment alternatives; supports client/family in achieving rehabilitative goals; monitors medication compliance; provides emergency crisis intervention and after hours on-call services.
3. Consultation and training. Typical responsibilities: trains paraprofessionals in implementing programs and treatment plans; consults and trains in specific psychosocial and living skills, intervention and rehabilitative methods with parents, staff, and service providers.
4. Behavior Modification. Typical responsibilities: alter the behavior that is inappropriate or undesirable of the child or the adolescent; alter existing behaviors, acquire new behaviors, and function more effectively within his or her environment. Interacts with clients and families; teaches independent living skills and provides encouragement and advice on methods for maintaining appropriate behavior; develops community support; manages at-risk behavior; performs crisis intervention; and may supervise paraprofessional staff.
5. Family Support. Typical responsibilities: enable the family or caregiver (parent, guardian, custodian or persons serving in a caregiver role) to serve as a knowledgeable member of the beneficiary’s treatment team and to develop and/or improve the ability of families or caregivers to appropriately care for the beneficiary.
6. Psychosocial Rehabilitative Services. Typical responsibilities: assist the client to develop life skills to be more self-sufficient and independent. Client can learn the
necessary skills (budgeting, daily living skills, shopping, resume writing) thus becoming a higher functioning member of society.
