Position Description: Medical Technician & Scribe

Position Description: The position of Medical Technician - Medical Scribe is a key part of our Medical Team. This team works together with the doctor to serve all patient eye care needs, including routine exams, special testing and diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. The team is responsible for performing refractions, taking visual acuities, running special tests, assisting with contact lens fittings, and working directly with patients and with the doctor before and during the exam. The position requires technical excellence combined with compassion and the ability to work with patients of all ages.
Primary responsibilities:
· Create a positive, welcoming and efficient environment for patients
· Perform all pre-testing for patient exams
· Perform case histories and take visual acuities
· Scribe for the doctor during exams
· Assist the doctor as needed during the exam
· Perform a wide variety of tests utilizing specialized optometric equipment
· Teach patients proper insertion and removal of contact lenses
· Discuss treatment plans and follow up schedules with patients per doctor’s instructions
· Follow up on patient files and scan documents to ensure complete electronic medical records
· Clean and maintain exam rooms and equipment
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
· Work Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in medical or professional services required.
· Service Experience: Candidate must have excellent people skills and demonstrate experience working with people in a customer service or medical setting. The ability to build relationships, communicate clearly and create a positive experience for patients is essential.
· Technical Experience: Candidate must be comfortable performing routine pre-exam work, utilizing specialized equipment and conducting eye-related tests including MPOD, VEP, HRT, OCT, and Visual Fields. Training in these technical skills will be provided. Experience as a medical assistant is preferred.
· Additional Desired Skills & Qualifications:
o Excellent people skills
o Strong verbal and written communication skills
o Strong typing and computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software
o Experience working with EHR software is preferred
o Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is an absolute must
o Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems and resolve customer concerns
o Experience working with medical and optical insurance
o Must be able to see well in low lighting
Experience in medical records or medical office a plus
*Note: This position requires long periods of walking, standing, bending and light lifting.
