POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for recording and maintains public real estate records and documents and assisting the public with locating information.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Reviews real estate documents submitted for filing for accuracy and completeness; records and/or returns documents; validates documents.
- Scans and indexes recorded documents.
- Assists walk-in customers with locating documents and obtaining copies.
- Answers the telephone and provides assistance; locates documents for faxing or mailing to customers.
- Determines filing fees; collects fees.
- Prepares plat and deed reports.
- May prepare bank deposits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of state laws and regulations governing the Register of Deeds office.
- Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of real estate principles, practices, and terminology.
- Skill in operating standard office equipment.
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read, writer and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, and uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This work is typically performed in a professional office environment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
