What are the responsibilities and job description for the Room Attendant (Housekeeping) position at JB Duke Hotel?
The JB Duke Hotel is now seeking a Room Attendant to join our Housekeeping Team. This is a full time AM position, requiring the successful candidate to work from 7am – 3pm and varying days each week.
Responsibilities: Cleans all guest rooms to ensure that all guests receive the highest degree of cleanliness and courtesy that is possible.
Duties:
- Reports to work dressed in proper attire and on time following proper clock in/out procedure as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Gets daily board and room key, keeps to the assigned section and proceeds to assigned section. Be careful NOT to make excessive noise in the guest room areas. Is courteous and helpful to all hotel guests. No TV’s are to be watched while cleaning rooms.
- Report to assigned floor, go to linen closet and obtain assigned cart and vacuum, and proceed to assigned rooms in the following order: early make-ups, checkouts, occupied rooms. Do NOT enter “Do Not Disturb” signed rooms.
- When entering a room, knock on the door with hand (not key) and announce “Housekeeping”. Repeat if there is not a response. Open door and prop open with door stop.
- Pull cart flush against door opening. Do NOT block corridor.
- Upon entering room strip bathroom and bedroom
- Clean room to standard as trained.
- Thoroughly cleans bath area in rooms and stocks all appropriate supplies: towels, washcloths, and hand towels, bathmat, soap, dental rinse, shampoo, shower cap and other amenities.
- Makes bed, changing sheets daily. Failure to change bed linen daily could result in suspension pending investigation and/or termination of employment.
- Dusts entire room including end tables, desk, coffee table, window sills, closet doors, and other flat surfaces.
- Ensures that all company literature, stationary and menus are properly placed in the room. Makes sure that laundry bags, trash can liners and coat hangers and other supplies are properly placed.
- Cleans doors, mirrors and other surfaces in the room. Washes the inside of the windows and makes sure that the mirrors are spotless.
- Vacuums entire room, checking under bed and chairs and behind all furniture.
- Cleans a minimum of 16 rooms at an average of 30 minutes or less per room. Completes ‘deep cleaning’ when the hotel occupancy is low.
- Signs in and out and turns in keys and board daily.
- Notifies supervisor of any conspicuous people or problems, such as missing room items, pets, engineering problems, smoking activity, etc.
- Fills all guest requests within 15 minutes of receiving request.
- Wear proper attire: clean uniform, proper shoes and name tag at all times.
- Takes no more then 30 minutes for lunch break.
- Keeps linen cart neat and organized in accordance with department standards, including making sure it is fully supplied at the end of the day. Returns cart to assigned closet and caddies and vacuums downstairs.
- Cooperates with supervisors at all times and completes any request from them as soon as possible.

To do this kind of work, you must be able to:
Physical Demands: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent bending, lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Math Skills: Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to count supplies, linen, etc.
Language Skills: Must have developed English language skills to the point to be able to react to
training information and guest needs/requests.

NOTE: This hotel operates seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day and that holidays such as
Christmas, New Years, Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July or any other holidays are normal working days. Business levels will determine the amount of hours you work. Understand that you may be asked to work in other departments in a related position as required. Management retains the discretion to add and/or change the duties of this position at any time.
