Sr. Design Engineer

The Sr. Design Engineer (DE III) is responsible for creating new and modifying existing engineering documentation. Responsibilities will encompass creating or modifying drawings, bills of material or other supporting documentation from a body specification or sales order. Broadly applies principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments; solves a diverse range of complex problems working with limited direction; makes significant contributions to department goals.  Position Responsibilities: Create and modify SolidWorks 3D models and AutoCAD drawings for parts and assembliesMay perform structural analysis for new and existing engineered components Layout, draw and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical systems Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings etc. to assess factors affecting component design and the procedures and instructions to be followed Consult with other employees to design, layout or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems Design custom parts for integration into vocational vehicles to meet customer, technical, and regulatory specifications Interpret customer specifications and sales orders to complete an engineering package of drawings and bill of material for manufacturing Operations support as required Support lean manufacturing initiatives to provide customers with products that meet or exceed customer requirements while improving internal metrics Lead multiple projects independently Lead root cause analysis and problem solving activities Assist other Designers and Drafters with required engineering expertise to complete design activities May manage the workflow and assign projects to Designers and Design Engineers, as well as guide their professional development Other duties as assigned Position Qualifications & Requirements:Education: Bachelor’s or Associates Degree (in Mechanical Engineering preferred)Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience with BSME: minimum ten (10) years of experience with AAS IN meExperience in sheet metal design and fabricationTruck body and/or upfit experience is preferredProject Management experience desired Solid Works and PDM experience required Certification /License: SolidWorks professional certification preferred Skills and Abilities:Excellent working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, along with knowledge of assembly and welding procedures MAY be preferred Excellent working knowledge of Hydraulic and Electrical systems, along with knowledge of assembly certification MAY be required Thorough knowledge of body builders guides, FMVSS standards, and center of gravity analysis MAY be required Ability to recognize the application of multiple equipment components and their combined integration to achieve specific requirements MAY be preferred SolidWorks, PDM knowledge, proficiency required Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Ability to manage urgent and multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to work under strict time lines Work environment: Professional office environmentSedentary work with extended periods of computer useOccasional work in warehouse/manufacturing plantMust be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE)Travel: Occasional (25%)#LI-DP1 J.B.
