What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at JBar Enterprises?
We are looking for someone who wants to be a part of an amazing team at J Bar! We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee this team. The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience as a controller/business manager, preferably in a senior role, is a strong communicator and leader, and has skill and experience as a financial analyst. The Controller is responsible for overseeing J Bar’s daily accounting operations and budget development/execution oversight. Will also direct the accounting, HR/payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable departments. This is a management level position with 3 direct reports as well as key relationships with J Bar’s outside CPA firm. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President.

Job Details

Essential Duties
Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
Providing other members of the management team with information vital to their decision-making process
Working with the Sr Vice President in execution of the budget process, and maintaining the budget as a “living document”
Prepare cash flow report weekly and lead weekly cash flow meeting with all members of management
Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
Managing, hiring, training and retaining skilled staff in accounting and human resources
Oversee the creation and maintenance of the training programs for new AP/AR and Procurement employees
Create Month, Quarter, and Year-end reports
Attend monthly Management Team Meeting
Create Action Plans for negative metric variances
Create Action Plans to address Finance related undesired effects
Achieve profit goal set by the CEO
Complete special projects as requested by Sr VP
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field (equivalent experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis)
- 10 years proven accounting experience
- Highly proficient in the use of QuickBooks (our accounting software)
- Professional accounting certification, including CMA, CGA, or CA or equivalent preferred
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
