How you can make a bigger difference:
As a member of the Institutional Relations (IR) Team, the Grant Writer reports to the Director of Institutional Relations. The Grant Writer is responsible for managing a portfolio of grants to support programs, operations, and capital projects. Working with the Institutional Relations Team, as well as leadership across JB departments and program divisions, the Grant Writer is responsible for managing grants throughout the lifecycle, from initial prospect identification, research, cultivation, grant writing and submission to stewardship and final reporting.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Identify and research foundation and corporate prospects; cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with grantors to support JB’s mission, programs, and strategic plan.
  • Work collaboratively with IR, program, and budget staff to develop proposal content, including proposed program structure, staffing, clinical models, and budget.
  • Write and edit a high volume of grant proposals and reports for existing and potential philanthropic funders as well as in response to government solicitations (RFPs). Organize and prepare all supplementary materials.
  • Represent the agency with funders, at site visits and meetings, and in calls.
  • Track and report on status, successes, and plans to achieve your individual and team fundraising goals and to ensure timely and appropriate follow-up with funders.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date donor and research files and Raiser’s Edge records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
TO QUALIFY:
  • Minimum of three years’ related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s in related field required or the equivalent.
EDUCATION / TRAINING PREFERRED:
  • Minimum of three years’ related work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and proven experience writing foundation grant proposals.
  • Understanding of New York human service delivery landscape and the provider community as well as mental health care, child welfare, and related systems preferred.
  • Ability to manage several assignments concurrently and work well with others under time pressure.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, research tools, and Raiser’s Edge.
