Purpose & Scope:This position is responsible for assisting the sow farm in meeting production goals while promoting safety and wellbeing of self and other team members. This position is required to adhere at all times to Animal Welfare and Bio-Security protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
Basic sow/gilt care and handling (feeding/watering/moving/ventilation)
Administering vaccinations and medicating sows and piglets
Cleaning and disinfection of facilities, including removal of mortality and waste
Works closely with other team members
Fills out treatment cards
Ear tagging
Attend safety meetings
Adhere to Animal Welfare policies
Power washing
Maintenance needs reported to management
Production/facility housekeeping duties
Various other tasks, as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Be a team-oriented, self-motivated, and positive attitude, with a strong work ethic
Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Experience with or ability to learn farm technology (hand held devices/wand sows and other equipment, as necessary)
Ability to work weekends, as scheduled
Ability to continually bend, push, grasp, and pull up to 60 lbs
Continual walking and/or standing, up to 95% of the day
Reliable method of transportation required
Ability to work early 1st shift hours or late 2nd shift hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Bio-Security and swine production
Travel: Occasionally, within a 30-mile radius
