The JCCSF Summer Camp is now hiring Unit Heads for 2024!
Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Summer Camp is in session June 10 - August 16. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with children in a school or camp setting, experience organizing and planning youth programs, and experience supervising camp staff. This is a very front facing role, and someone who is outgoing and energetic is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise general counselors and specialists
- Coordinate specialty programming with camp specialists, when applicable, and organize and help to lead age-appropriate, fun and engaging programming
- Manage budget for supplies and staffing
- Provide weekly activity communication
- Lead and organize camper pick-up process
- Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and fun environment for campers
- Ensure campers' safety at all times
- Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors
- Model appropriate behavior for campers and staff.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Work throughout the spring to plan content, work with specialists and prepare for the summer
- Serve as a member of camp leadership team
- Supervise staff. This includes daily meetings, and regular verbal and written evaluations.
- Help organize and lead staff training.
- Appropriately respond to crisis situations.
- Step-in for staff breaks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with children in grades K - 5, preferably in a camp setting.
- Ability to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.
- Ability to plan and execute creative activities for children.
- Ability to lead and motivate groups of campers and staff.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
- Dedication to and eagerness for working in camp, informal education and youth programs.
- Knowledge of summer camps.
- Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Clean driving record.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.
Working conditions:
Will be working directly with the camp staff as well as youth ages 5-13. Camps will take place in ca variety of locations at the JCC such as (camp rooms, basketball gym, art studio, catering kitchen) and outdoors (field trips, sports fields, playground). Locations are dependent on the level of support each camp needs.
DATES & HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Spring Schedule: Up to 10 hours a week in May with mandatory in person leadership training 5/28-5/31
- Summer Hours including paid staff training and direct service hours:
- June 3, 2024 – August 16, 2024; 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday
- Day Camp UHs: 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
- PM Care Unit Head: 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday
