Description
Director of Risk and Compliance will improve and monitor risk analysis, recommend and align strategic initiatives, and ensure compliance in areas of risk management. These areas include, but are not limited to: Commodity trading, domestic and international credit, currency and interest rates, industry margins and trends, insurance, and banking markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Initiatives
Demonstrate independent understanding of trading strategies to identify and mitigate financial, operational and reputational risk related to new or existing activities
Maintain strong knowledge of external environment in which business operate and assess and challenge its impact on business risk and advice on appropriate mitigation in response
Continually monitor markets and recommend strategies for global risk hedging, including currency, interest rates, fuel and others as identified
Develop stress testing of existing and contemplated positions to ensure visibility in position and profitability objectives
Develop and maintain relationships with futures brokers
Data Analytics
Develop, improve, and maintain end-to-end risk models
Manage and maintain market intelligence data
Maintain current margin and market data
Consolidate and report supply and demand projections for various commodities
Aggregate commodity price data and trends
Coordinate and assist in the development of risk applications and models with the Information Systems department
Utilize predictive technologies to achieve strategic data objectives
Compliance
Evaluate existing risk policies and procedures for gaps and recommend resolutions
Collaborate closely with merchandising and accounting/finance to resolve any discrepancies on counterparty, pricing, volume and mark-to-market intent
Develop, monitor and ensure adherence to company credit and risk policies
Monitor daily position activity for position limit compliance
Monitor hedge accounts for trading compliance with various boards of trade
Assist legal with periodic and annual position and transaction compliance audits
Assist legal with annual compliance training
Drive a culture of safety, accountability, opportunistic curiosity and contributes to creating an environment where people want to work
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
MBA with a finance concentration preferred
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of working experience in Risk management; preferably in agricultural commodities
Working knowledge of agribusiness and farming industry
Strong analytical skills
Thorough understanding of financial derivatives, mark-to-market accounting, value-at-risk and stress tests
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Power BI
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Excel advanced formulas, macros, pivot tables etc
