What are the responsibilities and job description for the Control System Technician position at JEA?
- Assigns, leads and/or assists the work of others in system operations, database design or modifications, system implementation and final operations checks.
- Leads and trains others in designing, installing and troubleshooting process control systems.
- Operates and maintains a computer based real-time control system, including display and communication devices.
- Integrates new tasks, processes and equipment into control systems and assures compliance with engineering specifications and compatibility with other tasks.
- Consults and coordinates with others to identify current operating procedures and integrates, changes, upgrades or modifies systems or procedures, as required.
- Installs, maintains, repairs and calibrates electrical and electronic process control systems; SCADA systems, including communications; telemetric instruments and wireless communication; and related equipment at various installations, as required.
- Configures, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots telemetry control systems hardware and software, including installing and terminating associated electrical and electronic wiring and cables.
- Provides control system support and installs, maintains and replaces control equipment.
- Maintains equipment maintenance records, reports and libraries.
- Reads and interprets malfunction reports and performs required corrective maintenance for telemetry and control systems.
- Reads, interprets, and posts changes to blueprints and other technical diagrams.
- Operates assigned vehicles.
- Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
- Uses hand and power tools; soldering equipment; and electrical, electronic and other testing equipment.
- Uses radio for communications with operators and other field personnel.
- Performs other job-related work as assigned.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
Six (6) years of combined education, training and experience in control systems operation and maintenance, which must include two (2) years experience in SCADA system or DCS programming and integration in the water/wastewater/electric industry and one of the following requirements:
Associates degree in electronics or related field
Successful completion of military electrical or electronics schools which are equivalent to the above.
NOTE: A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or
related coursework may be substituted for two (2) years experience in SCADA system or DCS programming.
OR
Eight (8) years experience in industrial control systems operation and maintenance, which must include a minimum of one (1) year experience and/or training in all of the following:
Programming and troubleshooting hardware and software problems on telemetry control systems
Installing and maintaining computer systems or data communications networks
Programmable logic controller systems and communication systems
Installing and maintaining field devices, including VFDs, that are connected to a PLC- or DCS-based control system
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
A valid driver's license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
A valid Class A or lesser Commercial Driver's License may be required prior to employment and if required, must be maintained during employment in this classification.
This position requires that employees be in compliance with JEA procedure ES A0200 A0101 RS 628 Screening Personnel Risk Assessments (pre-hire for "FACTA" designations; pre-hire and recurring for "CIP" designations).
