The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Communications Specialist position in the National Park Service’s (NPS) Experienced Services Program (ESP). The program is designed to connect experienced workers, age 55 or older, with fulfilling and challenging opportunities at national parks and program offices that protect, conserve, and preserve our nation’s valuable natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources.
This remote position will support the Groundwork Program Manager and National Coordinator, Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program with the development of web content, internal and external websites, articles, briefing memos, and research related to environmental and climate justice, brownfield reuse, equitable development, and other topics relevant to the Groundwork program and NPS partnerships with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other federal agencies and partners.
Role and Responsibilities:
This involves:
- Assist Program Manager with website and web content development and communications products (briefings, one-pagers, etc.) for the Groundwork and NPS-Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance (NPS-RTCA) programs. This duty includes coordination with national partners and staff, researching and writing original content, identifying images and other graphic materials, and reviewing and editing web content.
- Assist with proposals and briefing materials for the purpose of improving awareness of the Groundwork and NPS-RTCA programs, understanding of presidential initiatives, and funding opportunities, and building new partnerships with EPA, USDA, and other federal agencies and partners.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The successful candidate must be age 55 or older; possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, public affairs, or public administration; significant years of related experience; Skills in communication, specifically web content development for a public audience and preparation of briefing memos and proposals; knowledge of and experience in writing about racial equity and environmental justice; access to a personal computer and reliable WiFi for video conferencing that supports using MS Teams is required (work-from-home position); proficient in MS Office products and familiarity with website platforms.
Hours & Compensation:
Part‐time position working an average of 20 hours per week @ $50.00 per hour.
