BUILDING OFFICIAL/ FIRE MARSHAL
The Department of Community Development is seeking a Building Official/ Fire Marshal. The Building Official/ Fire Marshal is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Building Division, including overseeing permit intake and issuance, plan review, code compliance, and building inspection services to ensure the health and safety of our community. Ensures the safety of buildings and structures in Jefferson County through administration and enforcement of codes and ordinances regarding new construction, remodeling, and abatement of dangerous buildings. Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) in structural engineering, architecture, construction management or a closely related field with a minimum of five ( 5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government, with at least one (1) year as manager of discrete work unit including direct responsibility for performance of a team and/or individual subordinates; OR, A high school diploma or GED, with three (3) years of experience related to building inspection and/or structural plan review for a public agency, including three (3) years' experience as a code enforcement officer or supporting code enforcement, with at least two (2) years as manager of a discrete work unit AND Current International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Building Inspector as well as a Plans Examiner; OR, Equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as International Code Council Building Official required, or ability to successfully obtain certification within six (6) months of employment. Certification as Fire Inspector 1 through the International Code Council or equivalent fire code official or Fire Marshal certification, or ability to successfully obtain such certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.
Hours & Compensation:
This is a full time Exempt salary position at MGR 19. Pay range is $6,400.91 to $8,351.47 in 2023, starting pay typically $6,400.91 per month, DOE. Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. 12 days of vacation to start, 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and bereavement leave.
