What your job will be like:
Jefferson Lab’s Central Machine Shop is seeking a self-motivated individual to join the Machine Shop as the Machine Shop Deputy. In this role, you will work closely with Machine Shop customers in assessing incoming work and assigning work to machinists. In addition, you will hold the responsibility for balancing the workload between internal staff and external vendors, contributing to the development, implementation, and adherence to all policies and procedures for the shops and their equipment, assigned safety activities for the shops, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment in the shops, and contributing to the material & supplies budget. This individual shall also be capable of fabricating parts with all machine shop equipment, operating the mills, lathes, saws, etc.
The Central Machine Shop is an essential group in keeping activities moving forward across the lab. Their ability to fabricate parts, make repairs and corrections to existing parts and assemblies, as well as consult on part designs and tolerances makes them a vital resource to all divisions. The Central Machine Shop’s value comes in the way of specific knowledge on machining certain materials, working directly with scientists, engineers, and technicians to address process nuances for key technology applications (SRF, vacuum, target systems), and quick turn around when necessary.

Experience:
9 years of relevant experience, or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Detailed knowledge of standard shop work practices and machine capabilities.
Able to effectively train people within work group.
Ability to interpret fabrication and welding drawings, translating the design into labor and material estimates.
Qualifications We Desire:
