What your job will be like:
Are you a mechanical designer who has a proven track record of generating complex designs mostly related to process plants such as chemical, petroleum and refrigeration facilities? Our Engineering Division is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the Cryogenics Group that will create and modify cryogenic equipment for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), Jefferson Lab, and other government supported laboratories.
The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) is the next large-scale Department of Energy nuclear physics user facility to be built in the United States. It will be hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and is expected to start operation within the next 10 – 12 years. Jefferson Lab is a major partner in the EIC Project and is providing significant contributions to the overall project management as well as the design and construction of RF systems, cryogenics systems, electron injector and storage ring electro-magnets, and experimental detector systems.
In this role, you will:
Design EIC Cryogenic Distribution Systems under the direction of an engineer and lead designer
Produce accurate, simple and cost-effective fabrication documentation
Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of design and drafting techniques with Siemens NX and AutoCAD software to create complex models and drawings of cryogenic components and assemblies
Utilize practical experience producing orthographic mechanical and fabrication drawings.
Understand and appropriately apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Maintain responsibility for the layout and detailed design of heat exchangers, vacuum and cryogenic piping according to ASME codes and engineering requirements
Qualifications We Require:
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree plus 3 years relevant experience or
High School Graduate with 5 years relevant experience or
Equivalent combination of education and experience in the drafting and design field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Performs work with minimal supervision.
Ability to identify problems of moderate complexity.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience in designing cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, and/or cryostats
Experience in process plant and equipment design
Experience in machining and/or metal fabrication
