Overview

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Polymer Engineer and Project Manager to join us in our Mountlake Terrace, WA office.

 

Forensic engineering is a fast-paced, dynamic and fascinating industry. The Jensen Hughes Forensics Division is a forensics engineering/consulting industry leader in fire and explosion investigations, construction defect lawsuits, piping failures, industrial failures, plumbing and HVAC failures, equipment failures, and large losses in general. Jensen Hughes has a state-of-the-art Materials Forensics laboratory in Mountlake Terrace, WA.  The successful candidate is comfortable in a laboratory, in a courtroom, and on a failure scene. This individual will work within, and often lead, multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and architects consulting on a wide variety of materials science issues mostly focused on failure analysis.

  • We have a dust explosion lab in Halifax, Canada.
  • We have a full metallurgical laboratory with an SEM/EDS that can analyze any metal found in a fire.
  • We have a plastics and materials testing laboratory that that can identify plastic materials involved in a fire and can determine many of the physical properties of these plastics,
  • We have a full forensics chemistry laboratory that performs analysis of fire debris for ignitable liquids and liquids capable of spontaneous combustion. Laboratory technicians are available to provide direct support to the fire investigator in the best methods to collect forensic samples.
  • We have voting and alternate members on NFPA 921 Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations and NFPA 1033 Qualifications for Fire Investigators.
  • Our experienced in-house legal team can help you prepare for trials and depositions.
  • Our dedicated evidence collection and handling teams will support you to assure that the collection of evidence is properly gathered, retained and tracked from the field.
  • You will receive on-the-job training from professionals with over 200 years of collective experience in fire investigation.

Responsibilities

This is a highly collaborative position that interacts with engineers, technicians, managers, clients and administrative staff. From a technical perspective the position is involved with conducting hands-on failure analysis, planning and executing laboratory tests, composing written test plans, and field investigations. The individual in this position will also participate in business development and marketing activities to build the business. For the right candidate, this is a green-field opportunity to build a polymer engineering forensic consulting practice with built-in access to an excellent laboratory and the support of a nationally recognized materials engineering team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Polymer Engineering, Chemistry with a concentration of polymer coursework or equivalent degree with focused thesis/coursework/project experience in engineering mechanics or machine design issues is required 
  • Doctorate or Masters of Polymer Engineering or related is desired.
  • At least 10 years of total work experience in polymer engineering post degrees, with at least 5 years of forensic engineering consulting experience.
  • Experience testifying in depositions and trials is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience leading and performing polymer and materials failure analysis investigations required.
  • Proficiency in polymer failure modes, fractography, and fracture mechanics of polymers is a must. 
  • Project management experience and ability to lead small teams and collaborate across multiple offices and disciplines.

The approximate base salary for this position is $135,000 - $231,000. Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting and not a guarantee of compensation. Final compensation may vary based on factors, including but not limited to, responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, geographic location, internal equity, alignment with market data.
