Job Description

Position: Principal - Elementary

School Year: 2023-24

Job Summary

The elementary principal is responsible for acting as the educational leader, responsible for managing the
policies, regulations, and procedures of the school. He/she will establish and promote high standards and
expectations for all students and staff. The leader will manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear
procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, and
goals of the district. These duties will be all inclusive of instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and
discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel
management, office operations, and emergency procedures. He/she will ensure compliance with all laws, board
policies and civil regulations. Other responsibilities include facilitating professional learning communities to build
curricula, establishing common assessments, and promoting and overseeing data-driven, research based
pedagogical approaches to instructing and learning. Expertise in the following areas is necessary: Response to
Intervention (RtI), the New Illinois Learning Standards, technology integration, assessment practices, and
methods of differentiation. Previous experience is preferred but would strongly consider a candidate with the
necessary credentials without experience who is highly motivated, exceptional disposition (caring, compassionate,
patient, etc.), and extremely dedicated to the academic and social growth of all students.

Responsibilities

1. Oversee the daily management of the school and office.
2. Oversee educators in the school, providing periodic observations and evaluations that are timely and

constructive and completed based on the timetables set by the school district.
3. Offer additional training and guidance as necessary based on evaluations of professional staff.
4. Participate in the selection of all faculty and staff for the school.
5. Participate in the process of staff discipline and/or dismissal.
6. Ensure a productive learning environment through continual collaboration with educators, students, and

parents.
7. Facilitate opportunities to connect with students by being present and available during arrival and dismissal, by

appearing at school functions, and by meeting with students.
8. Enforce disciplinary policies and procedures with students.
9. Participate in parent meetings and conferences and act as intermediary between parents, educators, and

students to deal with a variety of needs or issues.
10. Maintain competency and student academic achievement as prescribed by the school board.
11. Preside over staff meetings.


12. Ensure completion of routine and required paperwork including attendance reports, test results, and licensing
information for students, educators, staff, and school management.

13. Ensure that necessary maintenance and repairs to the school property are performed.
14. Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
15. Coordinate staff development for faculty and staff; providing instruction if needed.
16. Maintain the teacher evaluation database, monitor and share teacher evaluation schedules with District

evaluators, and be responsible for adhering to all SB7 requirements and stipulations as outlined in the law.
17. Grant coordinator for Title grants
18. Oversee the inventory and allocation of supplies and equipment.
19. Establish procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
20. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use

discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
21. Oversee and implement the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate.
22. Represent the school in community activities and meetings.
23. Interact with various stakeholders to foster a positive relationship between the school and community including

the PTO, community organizations, and leaders.
24. Act as a liaison between the district and the school; communicates needs and information to both sides.
25. Attend required administrative, other committee meetings, and extra school sponsored functions.
26. Collaborate with other principals and educators throughout the district to choose and develop curriculum and

textbooks that align with local, state, and national standards.
27. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Illinois Professional Educator License with proper administrative endorsement .
