Position Summary:

The Senior Engineer, Data for JetBlue Travel Products reports directly to the General Manager of Data Engineering and is responsible for leading the development and support of data management and analytics platforms, including data infrastructure. The Senior Engineer, Data will work autonomously while also mentoring the data engineering team in leading the design and development of data ingestion, processing and storage pipelines, as well as the transformation of raw data into business insights that enable JetBlue Travel Products (JTP) to become a digital disruptor. This role leans heavily on engineering, but also collaborates heavily with JTP’s matrix partners in JetBlue’s IT and JetBlue Tech Ventures (JTV) teams as well as external business partners.

Essential Responsibilities:

Lead, design, develop and manage data management products from conception to retirement.
Mentor and guide the data engineering team to deliver with consistency, quality and predictability.
Create and promote a work environment focused on engineering excellence to attract, develop and encourage a culture of technical innovation.
Partner with product management and Marketing teams and help develop the product vision and roadmap.
Create the JTP data infrastructure and analytics environments, understand the data and provide support for key business decisions.
Participate in the DevOps practice as it pertains to data engineering.
Help establish frameworks, design and integration patterns as well as guide the software development performed by business partners.
Help manage a collection of external technology products used to deliver business products.
Partner with JTV to identify, monitor, learn, experiment and share information about emerging technology that is relevant to JTP.
Other projects and duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least seven (7) years of previous relevant work experience.
Five (5) years’ experience in an engineering role.
Strong understanding of software engineering environments and standards.
Good understanding of version control, review and development cycles.
Expertise in understanding of Internet technologies, protocols and methodologies for delivering web-based products.
Experience managing Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).
Experience interacting daily with people at different levels within the organization, including developing and maintaining ongoing relationships.
Available for overnight travel (10%).
Must pass a ten (10) year background check. 
Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

Seven (7) years’ experience in technology roles.
Experience in writing software in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Shell, Go and/or JavaScript.
Expertise in architecting, developing software, or internet scale production-grade Big Data solutions in virtualized environments such as Amazon Web Services, Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

Regular attendance and punctuality.
Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice.
Able to maintain a professional appearance.
When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.
Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun.
