Job Description

I. Position Title: Maintenance Manager – Food Processing Facility

II. Employment Classification: -Exempt (Salary)

III. Department: Maintenance

IV. Fundamental Objective: Responsible for the company’s maintenance program. Ensures proper working condition of a variety of equipment within the production department, including but not limited to, pre-processing, processing, packaging, and shipping with a focus on safety. Supervises maintenance personnel, 3rd party contractors, establishes priorities in schedules in both preventive and reactive maintenance, shapes critical parts inventories, builds maintenance SOPs, and interacts with regulatory bodies including APCD, OSHA, and Bakersfield City.

V. Level of Supervision Required: Minimal

VI. Level of Supervision Expected with Direct Reports: Moderate - Heavy

VII. Supervisory Responsibilities – Direct reports include 1-2 maintenance technicians per shift, with three total shifts of planned staffing.

VIII. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper working order of production equipment by planning and overseeing the execution of scheduled, unscheduled, preventive, and reactive maintenance.
  • Coach and develop maintenance team members.
  • Analyze chronic and recurring mechanical and operational problems to lead long term resolution implementation.
  • Perform necessary area inspections and planned work follow up inspection to maintain maximum production and quality of maintenance efforts.
  • Ensure proper working order and make necessary repairs of drives, gearboxes, motors, shakers and other similar equipment.
  • Assures machinery, equipment and facilities are properly maintained for efficient and safe production.
  • Leads company efforts in creating, maintaining, and exemplifying a safety mindset and safe work practices.
  • Oversee the inventory storeroom by assisting in defining the on-hand parts inventory for maintenance consumables and equipment spare parts.
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of a plant equipment identification system.
  • Lead company representative assigned to managing and executing third party planned and/or reactive work.
  • Evaluate performance objectives to proactively identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement detailed standard operating procedures to support daily operations within established process control limits.
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement and LEAN manufacturing techniques.
  • Tasked with ensuring necessary equipment monitoring and reporting as pertaining to regulatory requirements if performed and reported in a timely manner.
  • Tasked with logging movement of items out of the parts inventory, and notifying purchasing of restock orders, required to keep all items at safety stock levels. Keep accurate records as required.
  • Work closely with the Quality Control and Production Departments.
  • Scheduling employees, handling time approvals, vacation request, performance reviews, disciplinary conversations, etc.

IX. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree – Mechanical/ Industrial.
  • Five years of experience in a Maintenance Manager role in a food processing facility.
  • Working knowledge of – MS Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Background in boiler and/or thermal fluid system operations and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, plant control systems, variable frequency drives.
  • Mechanically inclined, with the ability to understand and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • General knowledge and understand of air handling systems, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a forklift certification.
  • Must have a strong understanding of stainless-steel fabrication, including TIG welding, with a focus on sanitary and structural welds.
  • Essential Position Requirements:

  • Be able to effectively read and understand written information, including memos, reports, bulletins, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. (F)
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines balanced with a strong attention to detail and quality. (F)
  • Ability to operate industrial equipment such as a forklift. (F)
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust. (F)
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment. (F)
  • Possess good judgment, dependability, adaptability, and punctuality. (F)
  • Willingness to be hands on with strong production floor presence. (F)
