General Description:
Will need to know how to operate and maintain several systems. This will include Boilers, Ammonia, Generators, Air Compressors, Turbine, Glycol systems. Need to monitor and keep systems at operating pressures and temps. Need to be able to operate under pressure if a system goes down. Will need to be able to navigate and scan through systems on computers to make adjustments.
Must be willing to work nonstandard shifts.
Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must have knowledge of critical operating systems to include Ammonia systems, Boilers, Generators, Air compressors, Turbine and glycol systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Safe Work practices especially regarding energized work, working at heights and confined spaces.
- Ability to recognize, assess and mitigate or eliminate risk.
- Ability to understand and use proper PPE for associated tasks
- Operates systems in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with government regulatory compliance and standard operating procedures.
- Performs predictive, planned, preventative and routine equipment rounds and service requests as directed.
- Performs maintenance in accordance with the Maximo CMMS. Assist with the development and improvement of preventative maintenance programs, schedules, work instructions, SOP’s and operational procedures.
- Performs visual and operational inspection of associated equipment and interprets specifications, blueprints and job standards to perform assigned duties.
- Recommends measures to improve equipment performance and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, shop, or work crew.
- Determines and/or assists with analyzing and resolving work problems and achieving work goals.
- Must be comfortable and flexible enough to work with a wide-ranging and changing scope of responsibilities while adhering to the constraints of procedures put in place to minimize the risk for human error.
- Team player with the desire to foster teamwork to help create a positive working environment. Must be willing and able to train other team mates. Cross training will be the standard.
- Complies with all policies and procedures established for the building, including safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workplace
- Actively participates in, technical and safety training programs.
- Perform all work using the proper safety equipment and in a safe manner
Specific duties include, but not limited to:
- Demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
- Works to improve the preventative maintenance program.
- Complies with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintains all codes, laws and regulations through the JLL compliance program. Maintains a clean and safe workplace.
- Performs additional duties as directed.
Position Specifications:
- Education - Minimum of a high school diploma and trade school or apprentice program.
- Boiler license preferred and Ammonia certified.
- Experience – 3 to 5 years of experience in facility/plant operating engineer in a manufacturing or GMP/ISO environment. • Experience in critical facilities
- CFC Universal and Mass refrigeration licenses are a plus.
- Personal characteristics - Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports. • Must be proficient in basic computer application software such as MS Office, and E-Mail etc.
Skills & Knowledge
- Applicable codes, laws and regulations Excellent customer, computer, managerial, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively use computers and computer programs (including use of Microsoft Office Suite)
- Skill in use of the internet to navigate to and use web based applications.
- Ability to use handheld electronic devices (PDA, Blackberry, cell phone, etc.)
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
