Job Summary
Retail Associates hold a wealth of knowledge about pet nutrition and educate customers to understand product features which can add real value to the health of their beloved pet. Through customer dialogue on our showroom floor, the Retail Associate can identify concerns, answer questions and suggest products to best match their needs. Retail Associates actively engage customers with the goal of relationship building rather than simply to make a sale. This is fundamental to our business philosophy as described by our Mission and Vision statements.
Essential Job Functions
- Welcome clients into the showroom, create interpersonal connections, offer assistance
- Familiarize customers with product options including food, supplements, handling tools and toys
- Physically guide customers throughout showroom to access product(s) sought
- Educate customers on pet nutrition including benefits, values and differences between food lines
- Maintain showroom etiquette including rotations, replenishment and accurate pricing
- Maintain visual appeal including suggestions for merchandising improvements
- Maintain stock room including cleanliness, organization, expiration date checks
- Receive large order shipments, verify contents against packing lists and place in stockroom
- Attend nutrition seminars, expand and share product knowledge

- Sitting: Must be able to spend time sitting for extended periods of time to do administrative work
- Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand, walk about the facility for extended periods of time
- Talking: Must be able to speak with clients on the telephone and in person
- Balancing: Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while interacting with dogs that are in motion; must be able to conduct work on variable ground surfaces with work area; must be able to conduct work on slippery surfaces as affected by weather conditions
- Stooping: Must be able to bend body downward and forward, requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles
- Kneeling: Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s)
- Crouching: Must be able to bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine
- Crawling: Must be able to move about on hands and knees or hands and feet

- Hearing: Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds to receive detailed oral communication; must be able to hear animal sounds such as whimpering, crying and barking; must be able to hear sounds in a noisy room with ambient noises; must be able to hear communications via walkie- talkie or loud-speaker

Physical Demands (Vision)
- Color Detection: Must be able to identify and distinguish color; must be able to discern color- coded safety communications, color-coded signs, color-coded collars and leashes, color-coded caution identifiers and all other color-coded mechanisms and systems
- Motion and Depth Perception/Three-Dimensional Vision: Must be able to observe actions happening around you (to the left, right, above, below, as well as in front) Must be able to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are
- Near Acuity: Must have clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; must be able to observe animal conditions and movements within close range; must be able to read computer and print communications
- Far Acuity: Must have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; must be able to observe animals movements across a room; must be able to see/identify placement of products in showroom and stockroom

Dress Code
- Polos, fleece, vests, or zip-up sweatshirts; casual business attire is also permitted
- JMPR T-shirts (in good condition are permitted)
- Khaki pants, black, or navy pants, jeans (in good condition), Capri’s, Bermuda shorts, mid-thigh shorts, and skirts
Computer Skills
- Must be able to learn and efficiently use Springboard, One Note, Electronic calendar management
& Go Daddy email, When I Work and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to learn new technology in accordance with business needs.
Qualifications
- 3 years experience in pet food retail sales setting
- Advanced understanding and practical application of pet nutrition
- Reliable and dependable; maintains excellent attendance and punctuality
- Strong work ethic; sets high standards for self and others
- Outgoing personality; strong interpersonal communication skills
- Comfortable interacting with all breeds large and small
- Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness
Education
- High School or equivalent required, Associates degree preferred
