SUMMARY

JMI Sports is seeking a talented and driven candidate to join the finance and accounting team, providing critical support to all company initiatives.  This role reports to the CFO and will work closely with other company executives.   The right candidate will be highly focused on integrating their areas of performance into an efficient, accurate, collaborative financial process. The position requires professional maturity, a willingness to learn, comfort in a fast-paced environment with an ever-evolving list of priorities, and an interest in meeting high standards.  The successful candidate also possesses excellent time management skills to work independently as well as collaboratively with the JMI Sports executive leadership team, managing many requests at a time.  This full-time position is located in Lexington, KY, and is not eligible for remote work. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with internal and external teams in A/R, A/P, and property operations – including reviewing invoices and expense reports for compliance, documentation, and account coding, managing entries for accuracy, tracking outbound payment deadlines to vendors and partners, and preparation of property settlement documents
  • Continuously reviewing general ledgers comparing revenues and expenses against budget, managing expense allocations, and confirming the proper allocation of expenses within the chart of accounts
  • Managing recordkeeping and reporting of corporate credit card purchases for compliance and accurate allocations
  • Supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close tasks, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting, and analysis
  • Preparing and distributing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to be utilized in monthly close and management meetings; supporting any ad-hoc projects and financial analyses as needed, particularly in projects involving variance analysis/reporting and key metric reporting
  • Supporting the financial planning & analysis process, including contributing to financial projections in connection with periodic forecasts and the annual budget
  • Proactively seeking optimizations within own processes, evaluating data to improve existing business practices, and identifying new opportunities for savings and efficiencies; clearly and concisely communicating financial information to non-financial managers
  • Supporting the annual budgeting process for each property including developing budget templates, driving timelines, document control, expense projections, and preparing final budget drafts for leadership review
  • Providing support to Company executives via strategic initiatives as directed
  • And other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • BS in Accounting with a strong academic record
  • Strong financial acumen and grasp of corporate finance fundamentals, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • 1-2 years working experience in accounting and/or finance
  • A desire and willingness to learn, take direction, and collaborate
  • A strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to manage confidential information
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-up
  • Advanced Excel and presentation-building skills with experience in creating financial models and clear, concise presentation materials
  • Ability to work independently under time constraints, manage competing and complex priorities and deadlines, handle a multitude of tasks efficiently, and effectively leverage available resources
  • Professional maturity including strong verbal and written communication, as well as polished work product (formatting and presentation)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, given significant contact with senior management and external contacts
  • Must be prepared to and interested in proactively learning the industry 
 
Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of collegiate athletics, multimedia rights, and/or digital sales
  • Media/advertising/sports/entertainment experience
  • Experience with CRMs
