What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Technician position at JMP Solutions?

As a Controls Technician, you will be responsible for the technical work with respect to projects and service provided to customers. You would have a pivotal role in solving our customers’ business problems using your creativity and technical expertise. Joining the JMP team is both challenging and rewarding. What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Technically, Controls Technicians will implement and maintain control and instrumentation systems including: Installation and wiring terminations (to Process instrumentation, control values, sensors, and control devices; PLC and HMI hardware and components; VFD’s, Servos, Motor starters, Safety relays; Networking equipment), Commissioning support, Troubleshooting/testing/debug support, Maintenance
  • You will exercise Project Management skills by assisting with quoting, materials ordering, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Interface with customers and provide support on any automation projects that fall under specified scope of responsibility
  • Work with, coordinate, and manage the electrical and mechanical subcontractors at the jobsite
  • Work with controls engineers to perform I/O checkout and testing
  • Configuration of field instrumentation and verification of the control signals
  • Prepare work permits and coordinate work directly with the customer
  • Participate in emergency calls

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

  • Technical or trades background coupled with 3 years of experience in the instrumentation and controls field
  • A proven self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Experience with implementing PLC/SCADA/HMI based control and monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of process instruments, communications networks and protocols, P&ID diagrams, and electrical control diagrams
  • Working knowledge of various PLC and SCADA System platforms including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Schneider and Wonderware would be an asset
  • Experience with various communications networks via Ethernet, Cable, Fiber, Wireless, Telecom, etc. using common industrial protocols such as DH , DH485, Modbus, Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.
  • Experience with instrument specifications and calibrations
  • Ability to start work early at 7 am during field work
  • Ability to wire and troubleshoot loop powered and field powered instrumentation, relays, and power supplies
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Works well with a variety of different people from diverse backgrounds
  • This position is focused on local client site work and minimal travel will be required, however, travel within North America may be required.
