We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Permanent Assistant Controller to join our growing team within the Engineering industry. This role will require a strong understanding of accounting principles, critical thinking skills, and a passion for problem-solving. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the financial health of our organization by managing our financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, and driving financial planning.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements and budget performance
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. GAAP, ASC 842), rules, regulations, and systems of internal control
- Aid in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines
- Provide accurate, timely, and relevant recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information
- Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries
- Manage the customer invoicing process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee the management and maintenance of fixed assets
- Assist in the coordination of audit processes
- Perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support the Controller in ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
- Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company
- Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation
Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
- 7 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Proven experience as a senior accountant or assistant controller
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ASC 842
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of an ERP System
- Solid experience in creating journal entries, customer invoicing, managing fixed assets, and performing reconciliations
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- High level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
