Overall Responsibilities:
The Manufacturing Assistant Controller is essential for ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the manufacturing function. This is a key role in driving cost optimization, financial performance analysis, and decision support to help the organization achieve its strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze financial reports related to manufacturing operations, including income statements, and balance sheets.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Support the manufacturing department in financial planning activities, such as evaluating capital investment proposals, conducting ROI analysis, and assessing the financial impact of operational decisions.
2.Cost Accounting & Analysis:
- Apply cost accounting principles to accurately allocate manufacturing costs to products or production activities.
- Ensure that costing methods align with industry standards and reflect the true cost of production.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead expenses.
- Conduct variance analysis to compare actual manufacturing costs and performance against budgeted and forecasted figures. Investigate significant variances and provide explanations to management.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality.
3.Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the development of annual manufacturing budgets and forecasts.
- Collaborate with department managers to establish realistic goals and monitor performance against budget targets.
4.Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation processes.
- Work closely with the inventory control team to ensure accurate inventory records and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
5.Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Maintain strong internal controls within the manufacturing department to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits and assist in implementing audit recommendations.
6.Process Improvement & Collaboration:
- Identify opportunities to streamline manufacturing processes and improve financial performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and efficiency and to achieve common goals.
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies:
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and experience streamlining reporting for more efficient and effective results.
- Strong Excel skills are essential.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Operational business mindset.
- Self-motivated, organized, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or financial related field required.
- CPA preferred.
- Audit experience preferred.
Travel Requirement:
- Occasional travel will be required.
