Job Details
The ideal candidate will have experience designing mechanical and opto-mechanical components and subsystems for precision instruments, creating and releasing new drawings of parts and assemblies, and performing detailed documentation with minimal supervision based upon engineering principles and best industry practices for precision instruments.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop parts and subassemblies for new products
Design and document robust mechanical and opto-mechanical parts and assemblies for precision instrumentation that perform over a variety of environmental conditions.
Understand machining, sheet metal, (primarily stainless steel and aluminum), and 3D printing fabrication processes to design manufacturable parts.
Perform tolerance analysis and translate into appropriate drawing dimensions and tolerances using GD&T where appropriate.
Analyze tolerance data and generate error stack-up reports to ensure components and assemblies meet specifications.
Effectively communicate with fabricators, machine shops, suppliers, and internal manufacturing personnel.
Perform hands-on assembly and testing for prototyping to verify proof of concept and ensure manufacturability.
Work with certification and quality departments to ensure regulatory requirements are engineered into the product.
Drafting, engineering documentation, documentation control, and configuration management
Generate detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, BOM's, inspection documents, and related documentation.
Understand good drafting practices to generate clear drawings using Solid Edge CAD software.
Perform drawing releasing functions, including the storage of drawings and related documentation into PDM, PLM and MRP systems.
Lead engineering projects
Develop project plans, project timelines, technical risk assessments, and risk mitigation plans.
Interact with organizational leadership and product management on project planning and project status.
Support sustaining engineering, which includes updates to current production systems
Investigate manufacturing issues with operations and formulate technical solutions.
Implement solutions by coordinating with manufacturing and procurement.
Manage design changes including all required documentation.
Required Qualifications:
5 years' experience with design and development of precision optical and mechanical instrumentation.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Optical Engineering. Familiarity with analytical instrumentation for the pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries.
Expert-level CAD user.
Must have valid passport for international travel and authorization to work for US employer.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with general and laser safety standards for industrial instrumentation, e.g., CE marking, UL/CSA marking, IEC/UL 61010-1, IEC/UL 60825-1, ANSI Z136, etc.
Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and certifications related to industrial instrumentation, e.g., class and division ratings for North America, zone ratings for rest of world, ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, etc.
Experience with Solid Edge, Solid Works, and/or PTC Creo CAD software.
Experience with Agile PLM and Syteline ERP systems.
Experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) use and programming.
