We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our dynamic engineering team. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to apply their accounting skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in our finance department and will be responsible for maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers, preparing and analyzing budgets, and performing general bookkeeping. This role will also include payroll processing and ensuring the timely payment of payroll taxes.

Job Details
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and control the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.
- Assist the Controller with the day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting/Finance Department including budget review and analysis.
- Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.
- Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivables and work closely with the Development team to ensure that revenues and receivables in the database are reconciled with the financial statements.
- Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
- Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly/annual payroll tax payments and returns.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and interim grant financial reporting.
- Prepare and coordinate the audit process.
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or related field.
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles.
- Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and QuickBooks or other accounting software.
- Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax payments.
- Excellent data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
- Hands-on experience in operating spreadsheets and accounting software (JDE or other full-scale ER software preferred).
- Proficiency in English and in MS Office.
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
