Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year

We are an industry leader in Energy Recycling with 6 facilities located around the East Chicago area, seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Junior Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Water Quality Monitoring: Conduct routine sampling and analysis of water samples to assess their chemical and physical properties. Perform tests to measure parameters such as pH, conductivity, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity, chlorine levels, and other relevant parameters.
- Analytical Testing: Utilize advanced laboratory techniques and instrumentation to perform complex analyses on water samples, including spectrophotometry, chromatography, titration, and wet chemistry methods. Accurately record and interpret data, ensuring the validity and reliability of results.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with process engineers and operations personnel to optimize water treatment processes and systems. Identify opportunities for improvement, troubleshoot operational issues, and propose solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize treatment performance.
- Chemical Treatment: Prepare and administer chemical treatments for water conditioning and purification purposes. Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Compliance Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with relevant environmental regulations and standards to ensure compliance. Perform regular inspections and audits to monitor water quality, assess performance, and maintain accurate records for regulatory reporting.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare clear and concise reports detailing water treatment activities, analytical results, process performance, and any deviations from established standards. Communicate findings to management and collaborate on strategies to address identified issues.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data. Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices in laboratory testing and analysis.
- Training and Mentoring: Assist in the training and mentoring of junior laboratory staff. Provide guidance on laboratory techniques, instrumentation operation, and safety protocols to ensure a high level of expertise within the team.

Job Details
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Water Chemist or in a similar role, preferably in an industrial or environmental laboratory setting. Experience in water treatment, wastewater management, or process optimization is highly desirable.
- Proficient in performing complex analytical techniques, such as spectrophotometry, chromatography, and wet chemistry methods. Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and analyze data accurately.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations governing water quality and environmental compliance. Experience with permit applications, compliance reporting, and interaction with regulatory agencies is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot operational issues, propose innovative solutions, and optimize processes for improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information, write reports, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Sound knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and best practices. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and promoting a culture of safety.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Willingness to mentor and train junior staff members, sharing expertise and promoting professional growth.
