Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries is recruiting a part-time Graphic Designer and Communications Professional to support and work directly with the Marketing and Communications Specialist.  Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Specialist, the designer will meet with clients to help define and shape the scope of a project. The designer will advise clients on impactful and effective design strategies to reach a particular audience. The designer will create images that identify a service, event, Libraries project or convey a particular message. The designer will develop graphics for marketing illustrations, posters, fliers, digital signage, logos, and websites. The designer will select colors, images, text style, and layout for all printed materials. The designer will also review designs for errors before printing or publishing them. 

 

The incumbent is expected to: 

  • Design, develop, and distribute high-quality, image-enhancing promotional materials –such as print pieces, websites, social media, blogs, and other marketing and communications materials for the Libraries 

  • Perform related design tasks including photo editing, text styling and artwork production 

  • Research and recommend cost-effective options for design and printing solutions 

  • Help the Marketing and Communications Specialist propose and develop new digital initiatives including video content, content-sharing partnerships, integrated marketing, user-generated content and social-network functionality, blogs, podcasts, widgets and mobile applications

  • Occasional travel may be required 

  • This is a part-time position working 28 hours weekly. 

 

Compensation Grade  

The budgeted salary for this position is $45,643.50. Salary is based on related education and experience, internal equity, and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees 

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Master’s degree and one (1) year of related work experience.  

 

Related Experience: graphic design, fine arts, multimedia production or a similar field of study in the creative arts or related experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

We recognize candidates may not have all the preferred qualifications—we encourage you to apply if you meet some or most of them. 

  • Knowledge of media design trends and graphic design software as applied to public and community relations, information services and web-based communication 

  • Proficiency/mastery of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, (“draw” in Illustrator, “design page layouts” in InDesign, and “do photomanipulation” in Photoshop) 

  • Ability to effectively incorporate the institutions brand and voice into design projects 

  • Familiarity with the work of libraries in higher education 

  • Experience working with individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
