NCS Media Specialist III

We are seeking a Media Specialist to assist in leading communications to convey NASA’S strategic mission and vision to internal and external audiences. Providing support to NASA’s Planetary Science Program, they will shape compelling communications to earn timely and positive media coverage. This is a hybrid position located at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC that requires 1 to 2 days a week of onsite work.

•    Collaborate to develop targeted media campaigns, background materials for media events, and other media relations products 
•    Actively participate in and/or lead brainstorming sessions to generate ideas, identify research content, and develop clear, concise, and compelling communication products 
•    Generate routine and/or ad-hoc reports for the Office of Communications Management/OCOMM customers 
•    Directly interface with government customers and management
•    Provide strong guidance and counsel regarding media relations and opportunities
•    Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks
•    May direct, guide, and coordinate activities of a team/teams of technical personnel performing complex activities 
•    Generate reports detailing metrics and media impact when requested

•    Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, writing, or other appropriate area of specialization from an accredited college or university
•    Must have 10 years of relevant experience
•    Proficient in oral and written communications, including writing and editing
•    Advanced problem-solving skills
•    Must be able to understand complex planetary science data, develop themes and identify the most promotable topics for the public

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS *

If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
