University Benefits is seeking a Business Analyst to manage insurance and retirement benefits data in the PeopleSoft system. Troubleshoot and resolve daily PeopleSoft errors. Maintain benefits databases, produce regular reports, and respond to data requests. Work with large and complex benefits data sets. Develop and maintain documentation. Design business and program system solutions by identifying and evaluating options, resolving solution issues, and serving as liaison between the business and project team to improve productivity.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Specific Job Duties and Tasks
- Create databases and reports.
- Responsible for extracting data from PeopleSoft and other vendor systems to support benefit programs.
- Create ad-hoc reporting, as needed.
- Develop, manage and maintain databases and reports for the UI Human Resources.
- Creates tables and complex reports in response to University Benefits Office requests.
- Gather data and produce monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual reports.
- Analyzes report results; troubleshoots and resolves error codes/results.
- Review program specifications to determine program steps and sequencing, corrects errors by altering program steps and sequences.
- Verifies test results with users and/or supervisors.
- Implements new database and application programs and processes to streamline and maintain accuracy of employee, retiree, student and COBRA transactions within PeopleSoft.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve results
- Provide technical or application support to users including staff training as needed or requested.
- Update all databases used by the Benefits staff as tables change.
- Create Peoplesoft training materials and provide to staff.
- Offer ongoing support for staff.

Education Required
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Required
- Three to five years of experience in data/business analytics.
- Excellent analytical skills including the ability to analyze a variety of data, determine validity, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Experience with reporting, analyzing, improving processes, and recommending solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities, and to ensure a high level of accuracy in work produced.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods.
- Ability to work with users at all levels of experience as a team member, team lead, and as a self-motivated sole contributor is required.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Products, especially Excel and Access.
Desirable Experience
- Working proficiency with Oracle PeopleSoft and SQL
- RIS, Benefits Administration, and/or professional Human Resources experience
- Systems testing
- Project Management skills
