University Human Resources is accepting applications for a Senior Behavioral Health Clinician (50%) to provide confidential counseling and supervisory consultation services regarding personal and work-related issues for UI faculty, staff and family members through the University’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
This position requires clinical expertise in child, adolescent, marital, and family therapy. This includes assessment, referral, and follow-up management as appropriate within the context of an integrated health management environment.
This position is a half-time (50%) regular position.
Specific Job Duties and Tasks
- Provides confidential EAP service to employees and their families including initial assessment, problem identification, motivational counseling, crisis intervention, problem solving, referral and follow up after care, and return-to-work coordination;
- Provides consultative, assessment, and/or counseling and follow-up services for extremely stressful, highly emotional clients, including anger management counseling;
- Facilitates crisis intervention and/or psychological first aid services to work groups and individuals.
- Maintains client documentation and monthly aggregate data on contacts, consults and trainings
- Develops assigned programming in response to identified workplace needs
- Provides specialized consultation services to supervisory personnel regarding employees with unsatisfactory work performance; consultation services include review of past job performance, assistance in clarifying work issues, guidance on how and when to refer to the EAP, integration with personnel policies and procedures, and assistance in preparing for constructive confrontation meetings
- Establishes working relationship with community referral resources and evaluates their services;
- Serves in an administrative role, in support of the administrator and program including development of communication and marketing materials, program outcome analysis, and preparation of reports.
- Participates in professional organizations within the behavioral health area
- Participates in the evaluation of the EAP process and outcomes in terms of program utilization, quality of services provided, and the attainment of objectives.
- Maintains liaison relationships with organizational functions within University Human Resources and throughout campus
- Provide facilitation and training for workgroups who are experiencing behavioral problems affecting working relationships and job performance
- Develops and provides training for supervisors, managers, and union leadership regarding EAP services, substance abuse, depression, respectful workplace programming and other behavioral health topics.
- May provide functional supervision of support staff for UI EAP
- Provides direction on work assignments of support staff

Education or Equivalency Required
- Master’s degree and licensure in a relevant counseling field, e.g. Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), Social Work (LISW), Psychologist, or Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) required
Required Qualifications
- Considerable direct clinical behavioral care provision is required; typically demonstrated by a minimum of 3-5 years of counseling experience with child, adolescent, marital, and families.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of staff at all levels of the organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in commonly used office support software including Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
Desirable Qualifications
- Clinical behavioral health care provision in the chemical dependency area; typically demonstrated by 1-3 years of experience
- Training and experience in individual and group assessment instruments, crisis intervention, psychological first aid, and critical incident stress debrief
- Experience providing services within the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) environment
