The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full time TelePrEP Coordinator to join our team. The TelePrEP Coordinator provides patient navigation, operational support, and coordination for TelePrEP Services and PrEP Iowa. This position requires excellent customer services skills, strong computer skills, a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a general knowledge of prescription billing practices. This position will work closely with TelePrEP Pharmacy Specialists and other staff within the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) to support communication with TelePrEP and PrEP Iowa, serve as a resource for PrEP enrollment and /or PrEP related pharmacy billing activities, and help resolve requests and issues from staff and patients.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide Navigation/Support Services
- Provides PrEP Navigation services including, but not limited to: enrollment, benefits investigation and medication assistance program application.
- Serve as a resource to staff with both routine and complex pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) related benefits investigations and enrollment of patients into pharmacy services (i.e., specialty pharmacy).
- Communicate with patients, pharmacists and/ or providers to gather relevant demographic information.
- Initiate and follow through for required prior authorizations.
- Assist clinical pharmacy specialists or other providers with initiation of appeals when applicable.
- Assist with copay/coinsurance assistance or patient assistance programs when applicable.
- Assist other team members with complex subjects/ clients while maintaining the highest level of subject/ client confidentiality.
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, pharmacies, and patient assistance programs to resolve patient account inquiries.
- Complete Patient Adherence Follow-Up calls
- Receive and enter external lab results.
- Send reminders and schedule quarterly PrEP appointments and labs.
- Monitor shared Fax, Telephone line, E-mail, Mailbox, and Inbaskets.
- Provide accurate documentation of all activities as required by accrediting agencies, payers and/or administration.
- Monitor compliance standards and policies to ensure UI Health Care receives full and accurate reimbursement for services in compliance with payer rules and regulations.
- Assist with the resolution of patient shipment issues in a timely manner.
- Provide the highest customer service experience for patients and providers.
Communication/Collaboration
- Manage and appropriately route referrals to Clinical Pharmacy Specialists.
- Work with Specialty Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to develop and maintain formalized staff training, education, and competency programs.
- Understand the importance of effective business communication and maintaining professionalism in difficult situations.
- Engage with the LGBTQ community to understand attitudes and beliefs around HIV prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
Quality Improvement
- Assist staff in resolving patient issues, complaints, and feedback as well as identify possible trends where new process development and/or staff education is needed.
- Assist with the implementation of new Specialty Pharmacy Services projects and initiatives.
- Solicit feedback from staff to improve processes.
- Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new products/technology.
Human Resources Management
- Train support service specialists in the management of PrEP patient adherence calls and navigation coverage.
- Assist other staff in the resolution of new and/or complex billing or benefits investigation issues related to PrEP or nPEP.
- May provide functional and/or administrative supervision to the TelePrEP Interns.
Other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of the pharmacy technician certification exam within twelve months of the start of employment.
Experience Requirements:
- Prior experience (typically 6-12 months) in patient support or customer service.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, active listening skills, and the ability to maintain professionalism while handling difficult situations.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships of trust with clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work, without judgment, with individuals from varied cultures, races/ethnicities, national origins, sexual orientations, and gender identities is required.
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving abilities and meets challenges with resourcefulness.
- Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or comparable programs.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working directly with the LGBTQ population with community outreach is highly desirable.
- Fluent in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a complex hospital system is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment is desirable.
- Pharmacy experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing, experience working with insurance and/or federal and state assistance programs is desirable.
- Experience with CoverMyMeds and Ready Set PrEP is desired
- Self-motivated with initiative to seek out additional responsibilities and tasks along with generating suggestions for improving workflow.
- Experience working with multiple technology platforms (i.e., Epic, GE) is desirable.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is desirable.
