We are a local branch of the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation, a national non-profit career guidance and research organization. We offer a standardized aptitude testing program to help people (from high school to retirement) learn about their innate talents to discover work that is both satisfying and a natural fit. We have a full-time job opening for a professional candidate to begin immediately.
The Role
An aptitude consultant administers hands-on, timed tests and explains the results to clients to help with educational and career planning. This position is a combination of test administration, results analysis and interpretation, clerical work, and general office management. The job requires accurate attention to detail in scoring and timing tests, in addition to articulate explanation of career-oriented information. The ideal candidate also must be able handle their own office support work: scoring tests accurately and quickly, entering data, scheduling appointments, responding to telephone and e-mail inquiries, and more. The majority of the work is done on-site, though after the training period concludes, there will be some flexibility in your schedule and the possibility for partial work-from-home.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
No sales or solicitation is involved with this position. Our clients come to us usually by word-of-mouth referrals because they want to learn more about themselves in order to find rewarding work. We deal with high school/college students and adults looking for career and educational guidance. Many clients find this knowledge to be life-changing for them! We therefore need people who are comfortable discussing issues of importance with clarity, positivity, patience, and respect.
The Environment
This is a very small work environment. While you will be working with only a few other people in the particular office, you will be interacting with new clients every day. There are also ways to connect to colleagues in other offices and the occasional opportunity to travel.
Our national organization is committed to the well-being of its employees. Our regular week is 9-5 while training, with some flexibility upon completion of training. We fully support staff enjoying life outside of work, leaving your evenings and weekends free for your own time.
We provide full training of the specifics of our testing program. You bring a broad background of interests and knowledge evidenced by a strong vocabulary and a measurable ability to process numeric information quickly.
The starting salary is $52,688. We offer paid vacation, sick days, and generous full benefits (health/dental/vision insurance and a 403b retirement plan). The office is located in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood.
This is a client-facing role and proof of COVID vaccination (or valid medical or religious exception) will be required.
About You
We are looking for an intellectually curious individual who is well informed about the myriad career opportunities and possibilities. Because the focus of our research is on careers, we require at least a bachelor's degree and some previous professional experience.
Although this position does not require a psychological background per se, degrees and/or experience in psychology, career and educational counseling, anthropology, sociology, statistics/analytics, or higher education is a plus.
We are looking for analytical quick-thinkers who can handle daily responsibilities while simultaneously driven to accomplish meaningful work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in giving presentations and learning about new occupations and job opportunities while adhering to strict measurement accuracy.
You are conscientious, showing care for both your team members (punctual, reliable, eager to help wherever needed) and for quality of services provided (minimizing mistakes, following research protocols, and presenting test results positively).
You are comfortable moving quickly through testing, scoring, paperwork and counseling within set time frames. You can take in, synthesize, and interpret information quickly.
How to Apply
Please no calls, emails, or office visits. We will only consider candidates who submit both a resume and cover letter and apply through Bamboo (via this link: https://jocrf.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=57&source=aWQ9Mg==).
