Job Summary

Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems, wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.

Essential Job Functions

The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Determine the existence of electrical hazards and problems. Safely isolate, ground, and prepare circuits and electrical apparatus to enable repairs.

Troubleshoot and maintain motor control centers, motor start circuits, control loops, generators, high voltage switchgear, protective relaying, and related equipment.

Read/interpret engineering drawings and manuals to install, calibrate and maintain electrical apparatus. Work from complex engineering and manufacturers drawings or manuals to complete projects and assigned work.

Install electrical conduit, pull and terminate wiring.

Ability to use electrical/electronic testing equipment to such as multi-meters, ammeters, megohm meters, high potential testers, oscilloscopes, digital probes to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Install and maintain control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and control panels.

Install and maintain drive systems such as variable frequency drives, eddy current, and DC drives. Install and maintain programmable logic control systems (PLC). Interpret and/or modify PLC control logic as necessary. Install and calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, and level controls.

Observe installed systems to detect hazards and determine the need for adjustments or modifications.

Design layout work on panels, set up complex control systems, interpret and alter engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.

Repair or replace faulty electrical equipment, including electronic controls, meters, outlets, and panels.

Effectively communicate problems and solutions to resolve electrical problems.

Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information.

Assist in establishing and maintaining scheduled maintenance programs for plant equipment. Maintain records, update drawings, and develop safety procedures.

Perform other duties as required.

Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.

Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.

Report any animal welfare related issues to management immediately.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements

The minimum required qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Completion of a formal apprenticeship and valid electricians license required.

Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or engineering specialties preferred. 

Five (5) years of experience in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment with related training.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to act competently in emergencies. Ability to work unscheduled hours during emergency and/or unusual situations (24 hour/ 7 days week).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Considerable knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage switchgear, protective relaying, grounding procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, safety procedures, and electrical test equipment.

Good knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.

Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation.

Ability to use engineering drawings, schematics, and service manuals to troubleshoot, install, and repair equipment.

Ability to perform arithmetical and algebraic calculations.

Ability to maintain records and report on work accomplished.

Skill in the use of electrical equipment and tools.

Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in general maintenance work.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.

Knowledge of computer hardware with programming basics is highly desirable.

Considerable knowledge of the approved methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards, including equipment, tools and materials of the trade.

Ability to independently make decisions with minimum supervision.

Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to assist others.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to satisfy all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.

Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements/environmental factors for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach and service machinery.

Must be able to visually inspect machines.

Must be able use hands for simple/firm grasping.

The ability to safety ascends/descend stairs constantly.

The ability to safely ascend/descend a ladder while carrying 40 pounds.

Must be able to move 50 pounds alone and over 80 pounds with assistance occasionally.

Wide range of working conditions including office and farms.  

Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and ammonia.

Outside conditions that include inclement weather, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, heat, and humidity.

Noise level may be loud at times.
