Position Description
Director of Youth and Family Ministry
PURPOSE: To plan, develop, and implement a dynamic family ministry program that nurtures the spiritual formation of youth (6th grade through high school) and supports their families. It is important that the Director inspires and excites the youth and adults to learn and study Christ- centered faith by communicating and demonstrating a personal passion for growing in it.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Executive Associate Pastor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create, organize, and direct an innovative, attractive, Christ-centered youth and family ministry at JKPC. This includes:
2. Create connections with youth and their families to foster friendships among parents and help youth engage with other adults. Provide support to youth and families and provide an ongoing connection to the life of our congregation.
3. Recruit, train, equip and support volunteers for the youth ministry. Be aware of volunteer spiritual formation and encourage their continued involvement and dedication in the education of the youth of JKPC.
4. Work collaboratively with the Christian Education Committee and the Director of Children’s and Family Ministry to create pathways between children and youth ministries to provide a cohesive Family program. In concert with the Director of Children’s and Family Ministry and the
Executive Associate Pastor, create a comprehensive ‘scope and sequence’ of age-appropriate engaging learning and pathways to help families move from one part of the programming to another.
5. Because of the changing landscape of youth and family ministry and the church, other activities may develop and be assigned by the Executive Associate Pastor.
RELATIONSHIPS:
The person for this position must be a cooperative and supportive person on a staff team through regular and effective communication, have an enthusiastic and supportive attitude, and a willingness to adapt and be flexible in support of the needs of other staff and church committees. Be mindful of volunteer contributions and encourage their continued involvement in and dedication to the education of the children of JKPC. This is a position that works closely with a team. The Director of Youth and Family Ministry will meet monthly with the Christian
Education Committee, will meet regularly with the staff team, and the Director of Children’s and Family Ministry and the Executive Associate Pastor. The Director is encouraged to nurture and grow the Christian faith by integrating family ministry into JKPC’s larger mission and priorities.
EVALUATION:
Performance reviews will be conducted regularly by the Executive Associate Pastor. The
Personnel Committee will review the adequacy of compensation and make recommendations to the Session annually.
TIME REQUIREMENTS: Non-exempt, hourly position requiring up to 20 Hours a week including
Sundays and some evenings.
