Overview

The International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant will possess the expert clinical practitioner skills and knowledge to provide competent comprehensive care, consultation and education to postpartum patients and maternal child health nursing staff.

 

Responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Work requires a level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and three years’ experience as an RN in maternal child health nursing.
  •  

  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse in State of Maryland required. Annual Certification in CPR is required. Current IBCLC certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners also required.
  •  

  • Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  •  

  • Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, and explain medical center polices, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or medical center employees. More sensitive situation may be referred to others as appropriate.
  •  

                        Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities

  • Work requires occasionally reaching and grasping objects.
  • Work requires occasionally using a keyboard to interact with computer system.
  • Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.
  • Lifting and/or carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Pushing and/or pulling non-motorized equipment (e.g., stretchers, supply carts, mops) weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Stooping and bending.
  • Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  •  

                        Working Conditions

     

                              1.  Work requires performing unpleasant diagnostic or patient care duties.

     

    Facilitating and coordinating care by providing evidence-based care based on the nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols of the Johns Hopkins Health System.

     

    Providing direction to/management of other team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care.

     

    Working collaboratively with, and providing leadership for, a multidisciplinary health care team to support program initiatives that support quality, safety, and excellence in care.

     

    Participating in promoting improvement initiatives (clinical, financial, operational) that supports, protects and promotes area of specialty. 

      

    Implementing initiatives in area of specialty as directed by nursing and medical leadership.

     

    Fostering a clinical environment of service excellence.

     

    Qualifications
