Position Summary:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for gathering necessary data, entering appropriate data into computer, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and appropriately signed by patient in order to admit patient for inpatient or outpatient services. Timeliness and accuracy of work impact patient care by enabling others to provide direct patient care. Internal contacts outside the work group may be required to resolve problems and to collaborate on work procedures. Continuous contacts occur with external sources and responsibility exists to ensure that satisfaction is maintained. This position is responsible for collecting, verifying and monitoring health information relating to visits. This includes documentation, coding and billing reimbursement to ensure the facility is reimbursed correctly and timely.
Education:
Diploma/Certificate/GED required
Work Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year related work experience in a health care setting or two (2) years customer service experience
Knowledge/Skills:
1. Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, patients and insurance companies.
2. Must be able to collect, verify and organize data with high degree of accuracy.
3. Proficient in data entry, able to retrieve, store, save data and print.
4. Basic knowledge of medical insurance, third party payor and medical terminology preferred.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
