GIS Analyst
Under general guidance, performs geographic analysis and map production under established guidelines which includes working with basic to moderately complex types of data, spatial analysis and data mining.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processes and converts raw data collected from high definition lake surveys, digital maps, paper maps and other sources to a proprietary software format, with a high standard of accuracy and precision.
- Creates, designs and implements new lake data sources/databases for applicable market areas. Works to help develop new methods of representing data.
- Develops and recommends standards for GIS data development and cartography.
- Assists in beta-testing, quality control, and quality assurance of the digital GPS product line.
- Under general guidance, leads and coordinates less complex and moderately complex GIS-related projects. assists in monitoring project timelines, project status and quality standards. Provides input on how to improve products and increase the effectiveness and efficiently of projects.
- May be responsible for traveling and conducting on the water surveys up to but not more than 10%.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in geomatics, geographic information systems, geology or equivalent.
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in geographic information systems or a geospatial discipline.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and GIS software, hardware, and data inputs.
- Solid understanding of geographic concepts, applications and systems.
- Skills in capturing, organizing, analyzing and displaying geographically referenced information in an easily understood format. Skills in creating interactive queries, analyze spatial information, edit data in maps and present the results.
- May be required to travel and conduct on the water surveys with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to safely operate watercraft and related equipment.
