Production Manager
Holton, KS
Position Overview

As the Production Manager, you will be responsible for coaching and developing members and team leaders. This position is involved in the planning and execution of manufacturing objectives to achieve company/facility goals in four end-states (safety, quality, cost, and service). You will leverage your skills and experience in the areas of leadership, continuous improvement, project management, and building people to develop strategies and tactics that will ensure successful production of the most cravable sausage in the world. You will act as a role model and educator of the Johnsonville Way thus facilitating this as “a way of life” within the Holton facility.
Responsibilities
- Exemplify and advocate the Johnsonville Way every day
- Own the safety, quality, and productivity results in the areas you are focused
- Drive continuous improvement efforts that will facilitate the creation of “safety as a way of life” which will lead us towards our goal of 0 IFR year after year
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to develop budget and strategic plans for the area
- Lead efforts to create and sustain readiness pipelines within the operation
- In conjunction with Team Leaders, lead hiring teams and processes as it relates to new member and new position hiring and onboarding
- Have dual ownership with team leaders on performance, reviews, development, Personal Development Commitments, and disciplinary issues that occur on the production floor
- Widen the circle of engagement and ownership with members in the areas of safety, food safety/quality, cost of goods manufactured, customer service, member development and BPTW (Best Place to Work)
- Facilitate and lead new product and new technology implementation teams across the facility
- Promote and instill a culture of personal learning and professional development that will ensure the successful development of all Members within the business
- Coach your area and its Members to deliver continuous improvement in the four organizational end-states (safety, quality, cost, and service)
- Facilitate and drive goal and objective planning with teams that this position is responsible for
- Enhance partnerships with our raw materials suppliers through creation of feedback mechanisms regarding cost, quality, and delivery and identifying efficiency opportunities as relates to delivery times and the operations
- Identify and share best practices across the facility and network
- Work with Scheduler and Team Leader(s) on weekly product scheduling for your area of responsibility
- To enhance flexibility within our operation, occasionally spend time on other shifts and in other areas within the plant
Education
- Bachelor's Degree required
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership/coaching role with significant involvement in developing members to greater levels of responsibility, required
- Experience in the food industry is preferred
- Bi-lingual English and Spanish preferred
Skills and Competencies
- Proven ability in developing and coaching others to greater levels of responsibility
- Experience using continuous improvement methodologies (5S, lean, Six Sigma, etc.) to improve products and processes
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in budgeting, capital planning, capacity planning and productivity pipeline projects
- Demonstrated communication and listening skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
