MEDICAL BILLING/COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST
Job Posting for MEDICAL BILLING/COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST at Joseph Spine Institute
The Medical Billing and Collections Specialist performs assigned billing and collection activities under moderate supervision to resolve unpaid claims and appeals, and processes billing ledgers to produce effective collection results in an accurate and timely manner. Due to the year-end closeout process, PTO is blacked out during the last week of December each fiscal year. THIS POSITION GOES REMOTE AFTER SIX (6) MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT IN GOOD STANDING.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contacts insurance carriers to resolve billing issues
- Analyzes daily denials and aging accounts for resolution
- Determines and initiates appropriate action to resolve denied/rejected invoices and prepares payer corrections and/or appeals in accordance with payer plan requirements using electronic and paper processes
- Ensures the coordination of collection activities for designated accounts, leading to the timely reimbursement of receivables
- Coordinates with attorneys on legal cases for auto, workers compensation, and slip and fall cases
- Communicates with Billing Manager on any potential claim issues
- Answers incoming calls for billing questions
- Processes payments for deductibles and co-insurances on surgical/self-pay patients
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- Certified Professional Coder required (ex: AAPC)
- 3-5 years Healthcare Billing and Collections experience involving spine and neck specifically
- Multi-tasker, self-starter, high stress tolerance, and highly motivated with a sense of urgency
- Allscripts EHR experience preferred
- Ability to effectively understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions in English. Must read, write, and speak English fluently to ensure clear work-related communication and patient safety.
