Title: Dean of Students (K-8 Main) or (K-5 West)

Reports Directly to: Head of Schools

Supervises: All JCA Main employees/volunteers, either directly or indirectly, as indicated by the school’s organizational chart

Evaluation:  Performance on the job will be evaluated by the Board of Directors in terms of this job description. Special emphasis shall be given to the areas of loyalty to the mission and objectives of JCA, teamwork, attitude, and customer service.

Ministry Purpose:  This position is designed to fulfill the faith-based mission statement, philosophy, and purpose of Joshua Christian Academy through the diligent, excellent fulfillment of assigned essential requirements and essential responsibilities.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Born-again Christian
  • In agreement with the JCA Statement of Faith
  • Active member/regular attendee of an evangelical church
  • Administrative licensure preferred
  • M.A. or M.S. preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in school or church
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an administrator in a school or church

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Leadership

  • Responsible for the oversight of the department’s programs: curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Ensures the JCA mission is integrated in all curricular and extracurricular activities
  • Cultivates an open and approachable leadership and learning environment that invites dialogue, creativity, and collaboration
  • Develops department goals with faculty that align with school’s strategic plan
  • Uses student achievement data with faculty and students to create individual academic growth
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning
  • Visits classroom regularly, conducting and documenting walk-through observations
  • Provides written assessments twice a year for Teachers. These assessments will be forwarded to the Head of School for review by the JCA Board of Director
  • Facilitates parent meetings regarding academic programs for Elementary School

Professional Development & Spiritual Leadership

  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings
  • Empowers faculty and staff to engage in professional development opportunities facilitating growth in classroom effectiveness, quality and skill. Encourage teachers without a teaching degree to continue working toward their goal
  • Involves faculty in the evaluation of current programs and the planning of new programs
  • Encourages faculty and staff in their faith walk and provides opportunities for spiritual growth and the advancement of the spiritual disciplines of worship, prayer, and Biblical knowledge and understanding

Administrative Leadership

  • Works collaboratively with the Leadership Team concerning the need of Elementary School, including strategic planning of JCA
  • Supervises and evaluates direct reports and makes recommendations regarding goals, development and areas of improvement
  • Works closely with the Head of School to ensure continuity of programs and course offerings are in place to support students as they transition from Elementary to Middle School
  • Collaborates with faculty regarding student discipline needs
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law
  • Ensures that board policies and procedures are implemented and followed
  • Develops the master class schedule
  • Coordinates with Human Resources in recruitment and selection of employees, maintenance of employee personnel files, corrective action, and other human resource issues
  • Makes recommendations on the budgetary and financial affairs of the Elementary program including partnering with financial officers to develop the annual budget
  • Makes recommendations for annual updating of the Student Handbook
  • Partners with Human Resources for annual updating of the Employee Handbook

  • Invests in the lives of students through relationship building thereby inspiring them to apply themselves fully to achieve their personal best
  • Encourages partnership with parents in fulfilling the JCA mission
  • Maintains timely, relevant and effective communication with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Partner with the Head of School for the process of student admissions and enrollment including meeting the new families seeking admission to the school
  • Maintains a visible presence at Secondary program and school-wide events

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
