JOB TITLE: ASSOCIATE NETWORK ENGINEER
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OR PURPOSE OF JOB:
This role, under general supervision, assists with the integration of the enterprise-wide network including installation, maintenance, management and coordination of the corporate LAN, WAN, VOIP and TDM infrastructure. This includes local, metropolitan, wide area, wireless networks. This role would assist with Jostens enterprise-wide network infrastructure, which includes the integration of network hardware, systems software and voice/data technologies. The Associate Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the enterprise network that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting all facets of the network infrastructure. The Associate Network Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Additional details:
- Perform day to day support and assist with the installation of network solutions, cabling and cleanup operations.
- Assist with the evaluation, implement and support industry emerging network technologies that support the day to day and strategic needs of the business.
- Help collaborate with IT/Business staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of network systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Assist/support/perform security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, mapping and processes.
- Assist with ensuring compatibility and interoperability of in-house network systems.
- Assist with research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Monitor and test network performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports to manage Capacity Planning.
- Interact with vendors to assist with the evaluation of network-related products and services.
- Supports infrastructure of a 24/7/365 environment including scheduled, on-call, and emergency response support. Ability to travel to support remote offices; approximately 15% frequency.
Required:
- Technical leadership and the ability to work with project teams and other infrastructure teams to deliver quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Two-year technical college degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- CCNA/CCDA a plus.
- Experience: 5 or more years of network based engineering in an enterprise environment that includes voice and data network operational support, hands-on implementation and configuration of network infrastructure, switched Ethernet/Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, ATM, Wireless, TDM and VOIP.
- Strong understanding IP address management, cabling standards and network management platforms required. BICSI cabling design and standards training or certification would be a plus.
- Experience with technologies such as Frame Relay, MPLS, Metro Area Networks, VPN, Wireless, and ATM in a routed inter network. Data network experience with T1, NXT1, DS3, OC3 technology.
- Experience with network planning, security principles, and general network management best practices a plus.
- Basic understanding of protocols and Internet standards, including TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, FTP and DNS.
- Experience with Cisco network hardware and network solutions is preferred. This also includes experience with CATOS and IOS installation and support. Knowledge of BGP, EIGRP, HSRP, DMVPN, DLSW, Spanning tree is a plus.
- Working knowledge with firewall, DMZ, IPS technology and solutions.
- Experience with network monitoring solutions such as HP Openview Operations, CiscoWorks, Network Node Manager, OPNET and SolarWinds. This also includes strong troubleshooting skills and packet capture analysis.
- Voice and PBX knowledge is a plus as we migrate voice and data together into a VOIP strategic direction.
- Working knowledge with core operating systems and applications, including Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, Mac OSX, VMware, Citrix, HPUX, Red Hat Linux, HP Open View, Dell/HP servers & desktops, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Exchange Server.
- Microsoft Word, Excel and Visio knowledge.
