What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Assistant position at Joy Learning Garden?
1. Promote children’s development and learning through helping teachers inimplementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Use positive guidance strategies to teach,encourage, and redirect appropriate classroom behavior.
2. Help teachers to implement achild-centered curriculum and learning environment that encourages positivesocial interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation topromote development in all domains for children of all abilities.
3. Provide children with a consistent classroom routine, positive guidanceand discipline in supporting children as they acquire school readiness skillsfor Prek, Kindergarten and beyond.
4. Address challenging behaviors by observing to determine possible causesof the behavior, implementing preventive measures, teaching the child newsocial and communication skills and partnering with families to support thechild at home.
5. Use observations of children and anecdotal notes to document children’sprogress and individualize curriculum.
6. Help teacher to assess children two times a year using the assessmenttool adopted by the program.
7. Supervise and eat nutritionally prepared meals with the children as acurriculum activity and to model good nutrition and proper social skills forpreschool children.
8. Supervise all classroomfield trips and outdoor activities.
9. Create partnerships with families toestablish positive interaction patterns in program, school, and home.
10. Gather and maintain individual, family andclassroom records. Follows the school’sconfidentiality policy in record keeping.
11. Implement all programpolicies and procedures such as attendance, hand washing, mealtime, health emergency, etc. toensure that the program goals be met.
12. Take all necessary andreasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment andfacilities. Provide supervision and ensure the safety and security of childrenat all times in accordance with program standards and day care licensingrequirements.
13. Build positiverelationships with staff members, families and children. Create a classroom environment that is conducive toeffective learning and respects individual differences and diversity.
14. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
15. Attend training as required by the center andregulating agencies in order to achieve professional growth. Record and document or staff development trainingsas appropriate in the training documentation form.
16. Establishpositive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship of trust andrapport. Work to establishand maintain open lines of communication with parents.
17. Maintain professionalism at all times at the workplace.
18. Accept assignments as deemed necessary toaccommodate program needs and changes.
REQUISITE BACKGROUND:
1. High School Graduate
2. Be enrolled in a CDA credential program thatwill be completed within 2 years; or
3. Have an associate or baccalaureate degree(in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have a Child Development Associate (CDA)credential
2. Have an associate degree in Early Childhoodor Education or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree
3. Have prior experience working with bilingual children
4. High degree of interest and motivation inworking with young children
5. Bilingual Speaker a Plus (English and Chinese or English and Spanish)
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
