JR Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is seeking a highly motivated, qualified candidate with an expert knowledge of manually operated lathes, mills, and drill presses.  POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of Fab Shop Foreman, sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.  May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain equipment, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.  Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to design, create, and modify parts to specification and tolerances.  Possesses expert level knowledge of manual lathes, mills, drill presses, surface grinders, and precision machinist measuring tools.  Provides technical guidance and assistance to less experienced Machinist.            ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable Accommodations StatementTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable Accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   Essential Functions Statement(s)Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.  Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.      Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in the preparation of machinery work.       Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.  Sets up, adjusts, and operates all of the basic machine tools.  Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects, and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.Identifies the root cause and implements corrective action plans for defective products and parts outside of tolerance levels.  Confers with engineering, Management, and other organizational personnel to discuss and exchange technical information.Designs fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.Evaluates experimental procedures, and recommends changes or modifications to improved efficiencies, and adaptability to set up and production.Lays out, measures, and marks metal stock to display placement of cuts.Maintains industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment and diagnoses machine malfunctions and determined the need for adjustments or repairs.Cleans and lubricates machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.Maintains a clean and organized work area and maintains all equipment to outstanding operational condition.   POSITION QUALIFICATIONSCompetency Statement(s)Accountability - Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.  Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.  Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
