Job Summary:

Join us and be a part of a team that provides comprehensive, high quality primary and preventative healthcare services to the uninsured and medically under-served residents of the Township of Edison and neighboring communities. The role of the Sterilization Technician is to work interdependently with our dental team to provide quality dental care to the patient. The primary job for a sterilization technician is cleaning dental supplies, equipment, instruments, and instrument trays. No prior dental experience needed, but is a plus! Current scheduling needs are Mon & Thur 5-8pm, Tue, Wed & Fri 1-5pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for inspecting instruments to ensure sterilization has been performed properly as well as for any repair
  • Responsible for identification of different instruments and processing appropriately according to standards.
  • Appropriate placement and/or protection of delicate instruments are demonstrated.
  • Ensure instruments are packaged and labeled in appropriate sized peel pack.
  • Priorities are established in order to meet deadlines for processing instrument sets.
  • Ability to complete instrument sets is appropriately demonstrated.
  • Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
  • Internal, external and biological monitoring systems are utilized appropriately.
  • Sterilize instruments by following prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Sterilization records are reviewed for accuracy.
  • Cleans and decontaminates reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies, manually and mechanically (Hand Washing, Autoclave, Ultrasonic Cleaner,
  • Universal Precautions are followed through wearing the appropriate protective attire while working in the decontamination area.
  • Equipment is decontaminated, disassembled, cleaned and routed to appropriate holding areas while keeping a continuous flow of equipment moving through the process.
  • Appropriate cleaning detergents and agents are utilized through following manufacturer directions and referring to the SDS sheet.
  • Contaminated items are handled appropriately while following universal precautions.
  • All reusable items are decontaminated, sterilized, and cleaned and disposable items are discarded appropriately.
  • Responsible for proper ultrasonic foil testing on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for keeping daily, weekly, and monthly logs for accurate biological monitoring.
  • Performing cleaning of the autoclave, tracking each sterilization cycle, maintaining and updating autoclave cleaning log.
  • Participates in the coordination of all aspects of department’s services.
  • Rapid response to emergency situations is provided as necessary.
  • Departmental supplies are ordered.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Practices OSHA safety standards.
  • Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Maintaining a respectful and professional attitude toward all staff and patients.

· Attends all Staff meetings, trainings, and other mandatory meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Technical School with IAHCSMM-CRCST certification or equivalent to CSPDT.
  • OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Classification:Category I
  • At least 1 years of experience preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern dental materials, their storage, handling and applications is required.
  • Able to demonstrate strong clinical skills, procedural skills, documentation skills, verbal communication skills, and medical teamwork.
  • Strong understanding of dental terminology.
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Ability to use equipment and materials properly.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, religious, ethnic and professional backgrounds.
  • Able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
